Could my father follow this?

When I’m preparing an explanation about technology, I sometimes use my father as the test: could he follow this?

It is a useful question because I already know the subject I’m explaining. I can skip a step without noticing. I can use a familiar technical word and forget that it may be the first time someone else has heard it.

The explanation can sound clear to me while leaving the viewer behind.

Working in English and Amharic makes this especially visible. Changing the language doesn’t automatically fix the explanation. The idea still needs an order someone can follow.

I want a learner to understand what happened, why it happened, and what to try next.

That gives me something more useful than asking whether a script sounds polished. If my father would lose the thread halfway through, I have a specific problem to work on.
